We believe information is power. Doing “the work” of debunking racial ignorance and eliminating inequality requires a serious and honest engagement with history, power, ideology, and culture.
When students and clients engage with our educational programs and resources, they gain knowledge that is transformative on an individual level – in terms of raising consciousness and confidence – but we also instill a strong sense of community connection and community power. Drawing from a long tradition of history-makers, innovators and activism, we help our clients to see the possibilities of using their individual talent and skills to serve the broader community.
What We Offer
Black Star Rising provides dynamic educational experiences in 3 key areas: Black Studies, cultural consciousness, and antiracism. We curate educational programs that are foundational to understanding the diversity of the human experience and to drive innovation, equity and justice.
IMMERSIONS FOR INDEPENDENT STUDY
For beginners on the journey towards re-education or the life-long learners who are well-versed in Black history, our Immersions highlight little-known gems that are sure to expand and enrich your knowledge base.
Lessons Plans / DIGITAL DOWNLOADS
Each unit includes at least a dozen lessons and excerpts from primary and secondary sources to inspire critical thinking and strenghten your analysis. Multimedia source material allow for dynamic and creative learning.
